Beth Sholom Synagogue in Johnstown, October 10, 2010
What a warm welcome we received in Johnstown at Beth Sholom Synagogue. A lovely fall day, we made the beautiful drive out to play an afternoon concert arranged by Jim, our long distance orchestra member. We were very happy to perform for such a nice group of people. Gary was there to sing with us, Charley and Gordon played the bowl-back mandolins for one song and a new small ensemble played a song featuring: Shaun, Phillip, Doug, Carol and Mark. This time Carl played the bass with Charley and Gordon for Csárdás. We also played Happy Birthday for Jim’s wife. We had a wonderful time; sharing good music with our friends.

We played to a large dinner crowd of 103 residents. The residents of the village welcomed us heartily – and said they had never heard anything like our music. They loved Gary Burdick’s vocals. And, it was the first time we heard a breath of anticipation when “Lili Marlene” was announced. A committee member told us, “The word will get out – and those that weren’t here will want to come the next time.”
